Professional Teeth Cleanings in Dubuque, Iowa

Even if you brush and floss your teeth faithfully, it is important that you have your teeth professionally cleaned on a regular basis. Our main focus is on preventing tooth decay and gum disease. Performed in conjunction with a routine dental examination, a professional cleaning can go a long way toward controlling these two common maladies. While your teeth are being cleaned, it’s also a good opportunity for our staff to screen for developing dental problems such as gum disease or tooth decay.

Dubuque’s Patient-Focused Dentists

As a family dental practice, we provide each of our patients with a friendly, personalized and gentle experience. If we see signs of instability, we can help you avoid bigger problems down the road with conservative treatment options and techniques to maintain your oral health at home.

What to Expect During Your Cleaning

Generally, your teeth cleaning will be performed by a dental hygienist. Because everyone’s teeth are a little different, your cleaning will be tailored to your particular needs. However, many cleanings follow a similar pattern: First, the dental hygienist will do an oral examination to evaluate the health of your oral tissues. Next, the cleaning will take place to remove plaque and calculus from the tooth surfaces. Finally, your teeth are polished with a low-speed rotary brush fitted with a soft rubber tip. A slightly gritty, toothpaste-like gel is applied, and the tip spins around and polishes the teeth, making them smooth and shiny. Once this is finished, one of our Dentist’s will perform a final examination and discuss your next course of action.

The Walk-Out Procedure

When your teeth cleaning and exam are finished, you will then be walked out to one of our front desk associates who will go over recommended treatment (if any) that the doctor recommends. If recommended additional treatment, you will have the option to schedule an appointment back with us. We’ll also address any questions or concerns you may have at this point. If no treatment is recommended, you will have the option to schedule your next teeth cleaning and exam (recall) – usually 6 months or after from this day.

How Do I Pay for My Services?

We accept most major dental insurance plans and will submit claims on your behalf so that you can maximize your insurance benefit. Generally, we will have estimates on how much your insurance will cover, but these are not always 100% accurate due to the ever-evolving insurance landscape, so please understand if our estimate does not always reflect your final invoice. At this time we are not taking new Title XIX patients nor do we see patients with Iowa Care.

Payment Options without Insurance

You can choose to pay by cash or check on the day that treatment is rendered, and a 5% discount will be given for payments made in full. Additionally, we accept Visa, MasterCard, and Discover cards for a 3% discount. We offer special financing through CareCredit on balances over $300. Interest free plans are available at 3,6, and 12 months (subject to approval).

In House Savings Program

We now offer an In House Dental & Periodontal Savings Program designed to help you budget your annual routine dental care with additional benefits such as discounts on some of our most popular dental treatments. Plans are available for both individuals and families. Learn More.[/xa_slide]

We see children!

As a family dentist, we offer pediatric dental services. The staff at Langworthy Dental are very familiar with the needs of children and work to make them feel as comfortable as possible.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that your child see a dentist by his/her first birthday.

Though this may sound early, learning proper pediatric oral hygiene techniques, checking for cavities, and watching for developmental problems is extremely important.

We offer a complete menu of dental services for children as young as 3 including:

Sports and Your Child’s Teeth

If your child is active in sports, a custom-made mouthguard is a highly recommended safeguard. According to the American Dental Association, an athlete is 60 times more likely to suffer dental harm when not wearing a sports mouthguard. We can create a custom mouthguard for your child using a model of his or her teeth. This will offer greater protection than an off-the-shelf model. It’s an investment that pays off highly in the form of reduced pain, suffering — and dental expenses down the road! Most of all, it’s important for your child to have a positive experience at the dental office as he/she will be a regular visitor for years to come[/xa_slide]

Periodontal Therapy in Dubuque

Langworthy Dental offers a range of effective therapies to combat gum disease and its effects, ranging from scalings (deep cleanings) that remove plaque and calculus (tartar) from beneath the gum line, to surgical repair of lost gum and bone tissue.

Periodontal therapy can take various forms, but the goal is always to restore diseased tissues to health.

Gum (periodontal) disease can spread from the gums to the bone that supports the teeth, and may even cause tooth loss in the most severe cases. Similar to our Dental Savings Program, we offer a Periodontal Savings Program for patients who qualify. Learn More.[/xa_slide]

Root Canal Therapy

Langworthy Dental offers root canal treatment to save a natural tooth that has been diseased or damaged, causing significant pain for the patient due to inflammation within the tooth. Although the term “root canal” often instills fear in many patients, the procedure is typically no more painful than a dental filling and our staff will ensure your comfort during your procedure. Is there an alternative to Root Canal Therapy? You could have the whole tooth extracted, but it’s always better to try to save it — especially since root canal treatment is routine and has a very high success rate (over 90%).
